Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton. Rev. Dean Hanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasanton Cemetery. Opal Reese oldest child of Frank and Johanna Marie Amelia (Neuman) Kucera was born in a sod house February 22, 1922 in the Davis Creek Community south of Ord, Nebraska. At an early age, she moved with her family to North Loup and later to the Hazard/Litchfield area where Opal attended Litchfield High School, receiving her diploma and Normal School Certificate in 1939. Following a short term at the University of Nebraska, Opal taught rural schools in both Buffalo and Sherman counties. Opal also traveled to Arizona where her husband-to-be was stationed. While in Arizona, Opal held a number of jobs including clerk typist at Luke Airfield Phoenix Arizona. In June 1943, Opal married Duane Reese, and when Duane was discharged, the couple returned to Pleasanton. Opal’s postal career started soon after. After a number of years as a postal clerk, she became Postmaster in the early 1960’s. When she retired in 1989, Opal had completed 40 years of government service. Opal’s compassionate caring and professionalism will be missed by her family and many friends. Survivors include her son, Randy and wife, Nancy Reese of Pleasanton, grandson, Victor Reese of Pleasanton, granddaughter, Cristin Reese of Scottsbluff, brothers, Carl Kucera of Litchfield and Maynard Kucera of Hazard, many nieces and nephews and the entire Kucera and Reese families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, parents, sister, Eva Laing, brothers, George Kucera, Dale Kucera and infant brother, Francis Dean. Memorials are suggested to the Pleasanton Fire Department.
