Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 22, 2009, at Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. (Bryant) Steward in St. Anthony, IA. She was raised in the St. Anthony area, graduating from St. Anthony High School in 1943. Opal was united in marriage to Arnold A. Funke on June 19, 1943 in Waterloo, IA. She was primarily a homemaker, but did work at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown for a few years. Opal was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and the Marshalltown Moose Lodge. She is survived by her five grandchildren; Kelly (Tracy) Funke of Godfrey, IL; Jeff (Nicolle) Funke of Alpharetta, GA; Kari (Rick) Krutsinger of Russell, IA; Erin Taft of Clemons, IA; and Eric Funke of Albion, IA; nine great-grandchildren, three sisters; Mrs. Arla Guckert of Marshalltown, IA; Hazel (Irvin) Burton, of Newton, IA; Lila Steward of Newton, IA; one brother, Ralph (Glennys) Steward Jr. of Branson, MO; and one daughter-in-law, Karol Funke of Carlisle, IA. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold on December 27, 1994, her two sons Jerry and Denny Funke and two brothers, Lloyd and Lyle Steward. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of her boys.
