He was born March 14, 1874 in Defiance County, Ohio, the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Hart) Countryman. He came to Monticello many years ago and at one time owned and operated a livery stable in partnership with John Hoch, in the building now occupied by the Shafer Garage. Later he was employed by the White County Highway Dept., and served as a deputy sheriff for a number of years. His wife, Ethel (Hughes) Countryman died March 2, 1943. Mr. Countryman was a member of the Church of Christ of Hicksville. The only survivors are nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Perkins and Reeb Funeral Home in Hicksville at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The cortege is expected to arrive at Riverview cemetery in Monticello Friday at 2 p.m. for graveside services and burial. The Smith and Aufenberg funeral home is in charge of local arrangements.
