Read More	Orra H. Chenoweth, lifelong resident of this community, passed away at his home in Hawarden Sunday morning. Although he had been in steadily failing health for some time he had continued to look after the work on his farm, a few miles northeast of town. Mr. and Mrs. Chenoweth have lived in town for a considerable number of years but during the season of heavy farm work he has remained at the farm for a large part of the time and has spent most of the fall there during the corn picking season, making only occasional trips into town. On Monday morning of last week Ed. Squier stopped at the farm and not seeing Mr. Chenoweth about the place went into the house and found him in bed in a semi-conscious condition and suffering from two broken ribs. He was brought to his home in town at once and placed under the care of a physician. His condition was regarded as critical and he never rallied sufficiently to explain how his injuries had been sustained. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. J.G. Waterman in charge. Members of the Odd Fellow and Masonic orders attended the service in a body and the Masons conducted the burial rites in Grace Hill cemetery. Orra H. Chenoweth was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Chenoweth, pioneer homesteaders of Washinton township and later for many years residents on the Chenoweth farm, adjoining the city limits of Hawarden on the east. He was born on the farm of his parents July 15, 1847, and passed away Dec. 1, 1935, at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 15 days. Practically his entire life was spent in this community. On July 3, 1897, he was united in marriage in Hawarden with Miss Mae Gibson, who survives him. For many years they lived on their farm in Buncombe township, northeast of town, but moved into Hawarden in the spring of 1923. One child was born to them but lived only six brief days. Besides his wife he is survived by two brothers, Guy Chenoweth of Mt. Vernon, S.D., and Ernest Chenoweth of San Jose, Calif. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death, Earl Chenoweth dying several years ago at Watertown, S.D., while C.E. Chenoweth passed away in Hawarden only last summer. In early life Mr. Chenoweth accepted Christ and throughout his life was interested in Christian service but in later years ill health had checked his activities. He was an honored member of the Masonic lodge, the Odd Fellows and the Rebekahs. He was mild-mannered, neighborly, gentle and ever courteous, a man of honor and integrity who enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him.
