She was a lifelong resident of the county, except for the time between 1907 and 1910 when she took her nurse's training at Fullerton Hospital in Southern California and then worked as a registered nurse in Stockton, Tulare and Lindsay over a two year period. She was a lifelong resident of the county, except for the time between 1907 and 1910 when she took her nurse's training at Fullerton Hospital in Southern California and then worked as a registered nurse in Stockton, Tulare and Lindsay over a two year period. She was one of five children born to John Longwell and Ellen Elizabeth (Bradley) Sullivan who came to Kings County as newlyweds in 1875. Her father was a pharmacist who opened the first drug store in Grangeville and also worked as a druggist in Lemoore. Her grandfather, Dr. Abel Bradley, was Grangeville's first physician. Ora and one of her sisters, Irene, a teacher, took a mid-career detour into cosmetology and became hairdressers until Irene married. Ora returned to nursing until her marriage. In 1944, after a persistent six-month courtship, a widower and longtime family friend, Fred W. Arthur, persuaded Miss Sullivan that togetherness was better than singleness and she accepted his proposal of marriage. They spent eight contented years together until his death in 1952. In 1959, she was honored as Kings County's Oldtimer Queen for the annual Homecoming celebration. A lifelong participant in church activities and community affairs, she served for 20 years as president of the Grangeville Ladies Aid, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 75 years, a member of the women's groups of both the Grangeville Community Church and Hanford First United Methodist Church and had been active in other organizations including the Grange and Farm Bureau Women. In more recent years she had been affiliated with the Sunnyside Baptist Church in Hanford.
