Description	:	Orella Alene (Sevdy) Johnson, age 82, passed away April 28, 2013 at her home in Havelock, Iowa. Orella was born July 30, l930 at the family home in Graettinger, Iowa. Daughter of Norwegian descendant parents Wesley and Nina (Olson) Sevdy. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Orella attended all twelve years of school at Graettinger. On June 26, l949 Orella united in marriage to Wilbur Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Graetinger. Read More	Orella Alene (Sevdy) Johnson, age 82, passed away April 28, 2013 at her home in Havelock, Iowa. Orella was born July 30, l930 at the family home in Graettinger, Iowa. Daughter of Norwegian descendant parents Wesley and Nina (Olson) Sevdy. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Orella attended all twelve years of school at Graettinger. On June 26, l949 Orella united in marriage to Wilbur Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Graetinger. Together they were blessed with five children: Linda, Cheryl, Larry, Carmella, and Leon. The family resided on a farm north east of Laurens where Orella and Wilbur raised their children. Orella participated with the farm chores and even ran the corn picker. (A town girl no longer). She was a Sara Coventry Consultant at some point (and she didn't even like jewelry, or at least didn't like wearing it). Orella was a 4-H leader for many years. When the family moved on to an acreage north west of Plover, Orella stayed occupied with "stay at home mom" duties and baking cakes for graduations, anniversaries, weddings and other celebrations. Upon moving into Havelock in l980, Orella served as head cook of the Havelock School. (Home made—not any of that box stuff). When the Havelock School closed, Orella continued in a lesser capacity position as one of the cooks for Pocahontas-Rolfe area schools. She retired in l999, but continued to sub once in a while. During and beyond her retirement she served as the election official at the voting poles in Havelock. Continuing to occupy her time was implementing her sewing skills towards the Freedom Quilt Organization. Orella was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Laurens, Iowa. She served as Sunday School teacher for many years (even dressed the part at times). She was a member of the Ladies Circle there and volunteered quite a bit and sang in the choir in her younger years. Orellla (Lolly) was best known for her good stewardship which brought out many of her talents. She was quite a baker and cook, a gift inherited from her father. (Cinnamon rolls, caramels, kringla, lefse, potato salad and not to forget those home made pies). She thoroughly enjoyed painting and helped her father from small projects to large barns(no scaffolding, just long ladders). She loved to dance, walk, journey and anything else that involved people. Orella was very friendly and easy to make conversation with. She loved her children and treated their friends and everyone else like they were her own. Orella was a very welcoming person and appreciated deeply the neighbors and friends that not only stopped in but were there when she needed some assistance. She was a person that would take burdens on so others could go about their day. Orella, the kind-hearted person she was, took care of her father when he was ill, her mother upon days before entering a nursing home and lastly her husband Willie before he entered the nursing home. Her last days were spent, by choice, at home with the care of Hospice and her children. Her path might have felt heavy at times, but she always looked up. Her famous words to visitors "can I get you anything to eat." You surely didn't go away hungry. That is a two-fold commentary, as she always seemed to be fed by Christ and she passed that along as best she could. She is preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Johnson, parents Wesley and Nina Sevdy and sister Carmelita Rouse. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Linda (Mike) Hamm of Sioux City, Iowa, Cheryl (Jim) Wernimont of Fonda, Iowa, Carmella (Jerry) Imig of Gretna, Nebraska. Sons: Larry (Darlene) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona & Leon (Gwen) Johnson of Pocahontas, Iowa. Grandchildren: Gwendolyn (Kelcey) Stubbe of Sioux City, Iowa, Jacquelyn (Nathan) Bruening of New Castle, Nebraska, Dana (Brett) Decker of Rembrandt, Iowa, Laura (Paul) Vink of Brownsburg, Indiana, Kelly (Ethan) Bartek of Fonda, Iowa, Rick (Risa) Wernimont of Chicago, Illinois, Sean (Gen) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Todd Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Zachary Imig of Gretna, Nebraska, Dominic and Jocelyn Johnson of Pocahontas, Iowa. 19 great grandchildren. Sister: Karen (Bob) Huck of Spokane, WA. Extended family and friends.
