She attended Prairie View rural school and graduated from Marysville High School in 1935. She completed the Normal Training course and received a Kansas state teaching certificate and taught in several rural schools in Marshall County: Scully, Thomas and Grimes. She attended classes at Kansas State during the summer. On April 26, 1938, she married George O. Ruetti. They lived on a farm and later moved to Frankfort in 1981.Oretha was a 4-H leader for the Junior Commando 4-H club, a charter member of the Conservative Homemaker Club, helped organize the Marshall County Historical Society and was on the board of the Frankfort City Library.She wrote the weekly column It Happened Here for the Marysville Advocate for more than 30 years. The Marshall County Historical Society published a book of her columns in 2002 bearing the same name. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and one sister.
