Andes, 89, of 602 Hamilton Ave., Grinnell, died Saturday, Oct. 7, at Grinnell General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves of Grinnell officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery. The son of Samuel and Sarah Christner Andes, he was born Jan. 23, 1900, at Lost Springs, Kan. Sam Reaves of Grinnell officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Cemetery. The son of Samuel and Sarah Christner Andes, he was born Jan. 23, 1900, at Lost Springs, Kan. He moved with his family to Brooklyn where he attended rural school and worked on area farms. Mr. Andes moved to Grinnell in 1936 and was employed as a carpenter by the former Miller and Lindhorst Construction Co. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and following his discharge he worked for the building and grounds department at Grinnell College. Prior to his retirement he was an independent painting contractor. He was married to Leona Ferne Lavent April 20, 1950, in Grinnell. Mr. Andes was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53, American Legion. Surviving are his wife and a son, John R. of Woodward.
