They were married on October 11, 1950 and... Read More	Orley) Dean Salzsieder was born in Lemmon, South Dakota on December 24, 1929 to Emil and Lizzie Salzsieder. His early years were spent growing up with brothers and a sister on the family farm in Lemmon. When he was a teenager, he learned to be an auto mechanic, while working for the Dahme family. Fixing cars, racing cars, and flying airplanes were great pleasures for him as a young man. On the weekends, he and his brother would come to Aberdeen. It was there he met and courted Martha Hauck. They were married on October 11, 1950 and raised their family in Aberdeen. For many years he worked as a mechanic, and in 1970, he and Martha started DownTown Auto Electric and Midwest Refuse Systems. Dean was a hard working, honest man. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over 60 years, serving on many committees and as usher. When he wasn’t working on cars; he loved cars. Restoring classic cars was a passion of his, particularly Studebakers. He loved driving those cars, and entering them in contests. He worked hard to support his family. For many years, he and Martha bought houses, remodeled them, and then sold or rented them. They were “House Flippers” before that was even a word. Those were fun years for them; working their business, raising their family, flipping houses, and serving their Church. When he retired at age 65, he still enjoyed buying and fixing houses; but also spent time working in his wood shop, making clocks for family and friends. When his beloved Martha became chronically ill, he devoted his life to being her caretaker. He joyfully sacrificed all his hobbies and pleasures to take care of her. He taught his children and grandchildren how to live a life of service to God, and service to family by his example . After Martha’s death, his greatest pleasure was to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On February 18, at the age of 91, he returned to his eternal home. As were so many of his generation, he was an ordinary, simple man. His life was devoted to his Christian values and supporting, sacrificing and loving his family. Grateful for his leadership and love, he is remembered by his daughters Debra (Salzsieder) Kennedy; Jennifer Salzsieder, and Jodi (Salzsieder)Ryan Opitz; his six grandchildren, William Trebbe (Mandi); Adam Trebbe (Ammie); Miranda and Alex Meidinger; Madalyn and Haydyn Opitz; three great grandchildren; Justin, Ella and Dylan Trebbe. He was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, Martha, and his son, David. There will be a memorial service later this spring at St. Mary’s cemetery. - Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home
