A son of Nellie Hellyer (1874-1960) and Woodson Kline (1864-1946), Van was born April 15, 1906, in Exira. His entire life was spent in the Ex- ira community. He attended the Exira high school. He was a member of the Ex- ira Federated church and serv- ed on the Exira Fire Depart- ment. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Griffin (1911-1999) on October 5, 1929. Surviving are his wife, five children, Charles of LaPorte City, Jerry of Bettendorf, Lt. Garry, now stationed in Ger- many, Beverly Wilson of Ex- ira and Connie Esbeck of Bray- ton; 10 grandchildren; four bro- thers, Leonard and Dallas of Exira, Mark of Belmond and Eldred of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Leila Nelson (1896-1987) and Merle Wheeler (1908-1974), both of Exira, and Genevieve Kness (1900-1972) of Guth- rie Center.
