He died Sunday, March 4, 2018, at his residence in Norfolk. 1927-2018 Born June 30, 1927, on a farm near Norfolk, Orlon E. “Bud” Hartwig was the son of Edward and Martha (Neitzke) Hartwig. He was baptized and confirmed at the Peace United Church of Christ in rural Hoskins. He attended School District 11 in Stanton County before graduating from Norfolk Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 26, 1945, to June 5, 1946, during the Japan occupation. He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from June 6, 1946, to July 20, 1947. Bud married LaVone Schulz in 1952 at Grace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He worked as a rural postal mailman in Norfolk before moving on to California, New Mexico and eventually Florida. While away from Norfolk, he worked in the hotel and restaurant business, owned and maintained an apartment complex and worked for Walgreens for 20 years while living in Hallandale, Fla. In 1993, Bud retired and finally moved back to Norfolk in 2006 upon the death of his late spouse, LaVone. Survivors include his sister, Carol (Bob) Kentfield of Westminster, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Albert Stanock of Anaheim, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins; and good friends, Cheryl and Ken Miller and the Wheeler family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha; his spouse, LaVone; two daughters, Pat and Terry; and a son, Bruce. Organist for the service will be Trudy Dannelly. Casketbearers will be Gary Uttecht, Carl Meller, Ken Miller, Lucas Wheeler, Kevin Siedschlag and Kendal Siedschlag.
