Description	:	son of Henry P and Swanetta (Kramer) Harms Orlynn Henry Harms, age 83, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Henry P. and Swanetta (Kramer) Harms on May 13, 1932, in rural Grundy County. He attended country school. In high school, Orlynn participated in sports and sang in chorus, quartets and duets. He graduated from Aplington High School in 1951. He attended country school. In high school, Orlynn participated in sports and sang in chorus, quartets and duets. He graduated from Aplington High School in 1951. On June 18, 1952, Orlynn was united in marriage with Freda DeVries at the First Reformed Church in Aplington. Orlynn farmed, and owned the Aplington Sales Barn. He also worked for various fertilizer and feed plants. The last 25 years he was employed at Golden Sun Feeds from which he retired in 1995. Orlynn and Freda lived in rural Parkersburg, Aplington, Aplington, Iowa Falls and Danville, Illinois. In 1996, they moved to their present home in Aplington. Orlynn was a member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington, as well as various other churches wherever they had lived. He has served as elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang solos, in choir and other small groups. Orlynn loved sports, especially baseball and his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. He very seldom missed any of his children’s sporting events and traveled many miles to their son’s football games, both through his playing and his coaching career. Orlynn also enjoyed fishing and made many trips to Minnesota and Canada. Orlynn loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called him “Opa”. Orlynn enjoyed music and sang in the barbershop chorus. When he and Freda wintered in Texas, Orlynn was a member of Senior Ambassadors, a musical group made up of retired men from different states and Canada. Orlynn died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit of Parkinson’s Disease. Orlynn was preceded in death by a daughter, Nola Dohrman; his parents; and a sister, Doris Cuvelier. Orlynn is survived by his wife of 63 years, Freda of Aplington; one son, David (Linda) Harms of Middlebury, Indiana; a son-in-law, Jeff Dohrman of Blue Grass, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jason Dohrman of Cheektowga, New York, Melissa (Warren) Dempsey of Blue Grass, Ann (Jeremy) Schafer of Chicago, Illinois, Jessica (Michael) Couillard of Chicago; four great- grandchildren, Quenton and Nolan Dempsey and Jack and Kailee Dohrman; sisters and brothers-in laws and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016, at First Reformed Church with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery, both in Aplington. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington.
