Description	:	Orpha Lee Martin Largen, 82 of Dugspur, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her home after a long illness. She is survived by her children: Kathy Largen Patterson and son-in-law Charles Patterson and Thomas Largen and daughter-in-law Shelley Craig Largen. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Charles "Parker" Patterson, Erica Kathleen Largen, Walter Marion Patterson, and Thomas Michael Largen. Read More	Orpha Lee Martin Largen, 82 of Dugspur, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her home after a long illness. She is survived by her children: Kathy Largen Patterson and son-in-law Charles Patterson and Thomas Largen and daughter-in-law Shelley Craig Largen. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Charles "Parker" Patterson, Erica Kathleen Largen, Walter Marion Patterson, and Thomas Michael Largen. Also surviving her are three sisters: Belva Mabe, Hazel Largen and brother-in-law Glenn Donald Largen and Maggie Slate and brother-in-law Dan Slate. Orpha was born on January 14, 1929 to Ezra and Eva Goad Martin. She attended Goad School and was a member of the Beta Club a Hillsville High School and graduated from Hillsville High School in 1948. She attended Radford College and earned an emergency teaching certificate. She taught school at Excelsior and Goad Schools. She married Edwin Largen on July 1, 1951. During her husband's military service in the Korea War she operated the family farm and worked full time. Shortly after the Korean War Armistice Edwin returned home. Their first child Kathy was born in 1957 and their youngest child Thomas was born in 1963. Orpha left teaching and worked at Arden Hosiery Mill and later Bassett Walker Inc. from where she retired. Upon retirement she and Edwin operated their farm, traveled extensively throughout the United States, and enjoyed their grandchildren. Orpha was a member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She was a 30 plus years' cancer survivor and a life member of VFW Post 1115 Auxiliary. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Funeral services will be at Fairview Presbyterian Church on October 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ronald Kronk officiating. Burial will follow in the C.C. Webb Cemetery.
