She died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma. She was 95 years of age. When she was a young girl her family moved to Grant, NE. It was there that she met and married Lonnie Kuskie. To this union five daughters were born. Lonnie and Ferne farmed for many years at Grant, NE and Crook, until they moved to Holyoke in 1962. She died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Yuma Life Care Center in Yuma. She was 95 years of age. When she was a young girl her family moved to Grant, NE. It was there that she met and married Lonnie Kuskie. To this union five daughters were born. Lonnie and Ferne farmed for many years at Grant, NE and Crook, until they moved to Holyoke in 1962. There they both worked for Drs. Griffith and Gregory. Ferne later woked at the hospital as a cook. When the new hospital was built, she cooked the first meal served there. Later she worked for Dr. Myrlen Chesnut as well as V&B Steakhouse. She finally retired at the age of 92. Ferne was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a friend to everyone. To the people of Holyoke she was known as "Grandma Ferne." Ferne was preceded in death by her husband Lon, one daughter who died at birth and a daughter Virginia Lovenburg. Ferne is survived by three daughters: Barbara Law of Sterling, Wynona Baker of Yuma and Roberta Runyan and husband Marvin of Craig. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 28 great-granchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Ferne was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Orra Ferne Kuskie were conducted on Wednesday, May 3, at the funeral chapel of Roberts-Bauke Funeral Service in Holyoke Pastor Chad Johnson of the Nazarene Church of Yuma, was officiant. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park.
