Sherlock, son of Steven and Agnes Welch Sherlock, was born near Oxford, Iowa, Feb. 9, 1886, and passed away at his home in Victor on Oct. 19, 1956 at the age of 70 years 8 months and 10 days. In March 1892 he moved with his parents to Poweshiek county and received his education in the public schools of Iowa and Poweshiek counties. When a young man he united with the United Presbyterian church of Guernsey. During his lifetime he followed the occupations of farming and railroading. He spent several years in South Dakota and Minnesota and the rest of his life in Victor and Guernsey. He moved to Victor in 1921, where he resided until his death. In 1920 he joined the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 192 at Victor, of which he was a very faithful member until his death. He was also a member of the Ruby Rebekah lodge of Victor for many years. Orrin, as all knew him, was a kind friend and always ready to help others when needed. As a brother Odd Fellow, his duty was to visit the sick and help bury the death and this duty he fulfilled to the full capacity. He will be greatly missed in the home of his two sisters and brother and in the lodge hall of botht he Odd Fellows and Rebekahs. He leaves to mourn his passing, one brother, Walter, two sisters, Violet and Mabel, who lovingly cared for him during his long illness and gave him the best of care and needs; also several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were held from the McAninch chapel, Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. W. J. Fowler in charge. Odd Fellow rites were also conducted by V. a. Fancher and Robert Davison of North English. Two songs were sung by Hollis Fish, "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. George Keller, organist. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ed Bushnell, Mrs. E. L. McAninch and Mrs. Wayne Mathews. The casket bearers were Ed Bushnell, Wayne Mathews, Joe Safken, Milo Stowell, David Foster and Merlin Hull. Burial was in the family lot in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.
