Read More	Orval William True (June 11, 1927 - May 30, 2016) U.S. Veteran Orval William True, 88, of rural LeRoy, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, May 30, 2016, at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington. Orval was born June 11, 1927, on the family farm in the Aliceville/Westphalia, Kansas area, the son of Ehler John and Johanna Carolina Marie (Becker) True He grew up on the farm and attended Star Rural School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, serving in Korea, Japan, and Okinawa, until his discharge on his 25th birthday, June 11, 1952. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. in Garnett, KS. Following the war he returned home and on October 26, 1952, he and Marjie Faye Makepeace were married at St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville. They became the parents of three daughters, twins Pauline and Colleen, and Marlene. They lived in Ottawa until moving to the farm of Orval’s Grandfather Becker in March 1953 to care for him until his death. In 1954 they moved to a farm north of Aliceville in the Scott Valley Neighborhood where Orval farmed and raised livestock and began milking dairy cattle. In 1966 they moved to their farm north-west of Aliceville where they expanded the dairy operation. In earlier years Orval played on area softball teams, was a member of the Waverly Saddle Club, and helped organize the rural water district in the Aliceville area. When his daughters were growing up he was active in 4-H. He remained active throughout his life. He served on the Coffey County Board of Commissioners from 1980 until 1984, served on the Farm Credit Board, and served on the Senior Citizens Board in LeRoy. He organized numerous horse pulls in the area and was Superintendent of the Horse Pulls at the Kansas State Fair for several years. He was named Parade Marshall for the Coffey County Fair in 2010. He also loved to play pitch with his friends. He took pride in his farm and in 1991 he received the Soil Conservation Award by the Kansas Bankers Assoc. Orval was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Aliceville where he was baptized and confirmed. In January 2012 he moved to The Meadows in Burlington and transferred his membership to Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. He leaves Marjie, his wife of more than 63 years, of The Meadows; his daughters, Pauline True, Indianapolis, IN, Colleen Gleue and husband Gordon, Johnson, KS, and Marlene Cook and husband Roger, Burlington; five grandchildren, Sally Trujillo and husband Thomas, E. J. Cook and wife Chris, Neal Cook and wife Shanna, Becky Gleue, and Michael Cook; eight great-grandchildren, Maycee, Treyton, Samantha, Shaelyn, John, Gordon, Damon, and Katelyn; three step-great-grandchildren, Ana, Gabbi, and Cisco; two sisters, Lois Stohs and husband Martin, and Carole Wilson and husband Richard; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery at Aliceville.
