Description	:	son of Fred and Frieda (Kappel) Groothuis U.S. Air Force veteran Orville Marinus Groothuis, age 73, of Kesley, Iowa, was born the son of Fred and Frieda (Kappel) Groothuis on August 19, 1938, in rural Aplington, Iowa. He graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1956 from Aplington High School. Following graduation Orville spent several years as a linotype operator in Aplington and Reinbeck. Read More	son of Fred and Frieda (Kappel) Groothuis U.S. Air Force veteran Orville Marinus Groothuis, age 73, of Kesley, Iowa, was born the son of Fred and Frieda (Kappel) Groothuis on August 19, 1938, in rural Aplington, Iowa. He graduated valedictorian of the Class of 1956 from Aplington High School. Following graduation Orville spent several years as a linotype operator in Aplington and Reinbeck. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 13, 1961, where he worked in electronics, and was honorably discharged on September 10, 1965. On January 6, 1967, Orville was united in marriage with Sharon Withers at the Rock Road Presbyterian Church in Wichita, Kansas. Through the years they lived in Freeport, Maine, Readlyn, Aplington and Kesley, Iowa where he had continued working in electronics for many years. Orville retired from Richelieu Foods, Inc. in Grundy Center, Iowa in 2006. Orville and Sharon celebrated 40 years of marriage together, before her death on April 7, 2007. Over his lifetime Orville enjoyed motorcycle touring, horseshoes, league bowling, target shooting (was a life member of the NRA) and watching sports on TV. As a young man he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Kesley Presbyterian Church. Orville died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes. Orville leaves behind a brother, Larrie Groothuis of rural Aplington, Iowa; a sister, Lorna (Robert) Ontjes of Iowa City, Iowa; nephews, Scott Ontjes of Centerville, Ohio, and Fred (Ann) Ontjes and a great-niece, Lindsey Ontjes all of St. Michael, Minnesota; and many cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Kesley Presbyterian Church in Kesley, Iowa, with burial at the Hitesville Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Redman-Schwartz Chapel in Aplington, (319)347-6275 and will continue 1 hour prior to services at the church.
