The Greenville News, Greenville, South Carolina: 22 Sep 1989, Fri ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Orville McCarty Canup, 88, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Anderson and Greenville, died of a heart attack in his apartment in Albuquerque, Sept. 20, 1989. He attended Pendleton High School and Chicago Business College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I, serving with the Cavalry in France and Germany. He was former vice-commander of the W.A. Hudgens Post of the American Legion in Anderson, a past vice president of the Anderson Junior Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Anderson First Baptist Church. He joined Southern Public Utilities, now Duke Power Co., in Anderson in 1921 and was employed by those companies almost 50 years before retiring from Duke and moving to Albuquerque in 1969. His first assignment with the utilities firm was at the Portman Shoals plant near Anderson. He later transferred into marketing and was commercial manager of Duke's Greenville district several years prior to his retirement. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Connie) Hall of Denver, Colo., formerly of Anderson; a brother, C.R. "Red" Canup of Easley; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Georgia Lee) Edmonds of Pickens; and a granddaughter, Lisa and a grandson, Steve, both of the home. Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel, Anderson. Private burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson. Visitation: 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
