"Dutch" Roth, 69, of Monticello, former White County Conservation Officer and retired carpenter, died Saturday evening at the Cold Springs Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis following an illness of several months. Roth served as Conservation Officer 19 years prior to his retirement. Born in Monticello on Aug. 25, 1892, he was the son of Charles and Lucy Campbell Roth. His marriage was to Lorene Malone and she died in 1945. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion and past commander of the Thornton Williams Legion Post in Monticello. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge in Logansport, Odd Fellows Lodge, Goodfellows Club, Fraternal Order of Police, Redman Lodge and the White County Barracks of World War I. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Darleen Lynch, of Brownsburg; a son, Robert W. Roth, Monticello City Judge; a stepson, Gordon Hickman, Logansport, and four sisters, Mrs. Mabel VanPelt, Huntington; Mrs. Esther Reynolds, Monticello; Mrs. Beulah Armstrong, Tucson, Ariz.; and Mrs. Josephine Carr, Fort Charrep, Fla. A sister and four brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Aufenberg and White funeral home in Monticello, with Rev. J.A. Hornick officiating. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday.
