He was born in Denton, Md., and came here in 1977 from Harrington, Del. He was the owner of Smitty's Barbershop in Harrington and locally and also worked as a barber at other area shops. He graduated from Trinity Bible College in Dunedin and was an independent ordained minister. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Pinellas Park.
