Description	:	Orvin Hotvedt, age 81, of Decorah, IA died on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church, 2358 – 360th Street, Burr Oak, IA, with Rev. Matt Larson presiding. Burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery in Decorah, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Wednesday morning. Orvin Lowell Hotvedt was born September 2, 1936 to Helmer and Selma (Sorenson) Hotvedt in Decorah, Iowa. Orvin was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. He attended Baker Country School and then graduated from Decorah High School in 1955. Orvin graduated from Luther College and later received a grant to attend Clarke College in Dubuque where he received his Master’s Degree in Education. On September 2, 1961, Orvin was united in marriage to Ann Wilkins at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Two children were born of this union: Brenda and Beverly. For ten years, Orvin taught junior high in various schools in Iowa and was elementary principal at North Winneshiek Community School for five years. During this time Orvin and Ann farmed in the Burr Oak area. In addition, Orvin sold real estate for Erickson Prochaska and Perfect House Realty. In 2000, Orvin and Ann retired and moved to Decorah. During retirement, Orvin continued to enjoy farming by helping nephew Dan Hotvedt at Foresight Farms. He was a member of Burr Oak Lutheran Church where he sat on various committees and was also a member of Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Club, Winneshiek County Board of Review, and the Winneshiek County Fair Board. Orvin enjoyed going on tractor rides, traveling, playing cards, and later in life “ski” trips with the Larsons and Thompsons. One of his greatest joys was having all three grandchildren graduate from college. Orvin is survived by his wife, Ann, of Decorah. Two daughters: Brenda (Ed) Kilgore of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Beverly (Mike) Johnson of Lime Springs, Iowa. Three grandchildren: Jacob Johnson, Erika and Travis Kilgore. Sisters-in-law: Janice Hotvedt of Decorah; Lorraine (Sis) Sacquitne of Decorah; Marjorie O’Hare of St. Joseph, Missouri. Brothers-in-law Eldean Wilkins of Decorah; Dickie Wilkins (Susie) of Germany and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Orvin was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Selma (Sorenson) Hotvedt. Father and mother-in-law: Wilbur and Nina Wilkins. Brother: Spencer Hotvedt. Sister: Carolyn Hotvedt.
