Description	:	Orvis V. Larsen, 95, of Grand Island, formerly of Central City, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Tess Hufford will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Kronborg. Mr. Larsen was born Feb. 28, 1918, at Bingville, to George and Ida (Hemmingsen) Larsen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, on July 31, 2009. Survivors of his immediate family include his children, Orvis and Janet Larsen of Alamo, Calif.; Tom Larsen of Lincoln; and Shelley Blodgett of Grand Island. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and he was looking forward to the birth of the 13th great-grandchild; and three great-great-grandchildren. Orvis graduated from Marquette High School in 1936, and for several years he was involved in the horse racing business. He was united in marriage to Bernice R. Johns in 1939 in Seattle. They returned to Nebraska in 1940 and farmed north of Central City for a short time. They moved to Scottsbluff, where they owned and operated the West Overland Produce. In 1947 they moved the business to Central City. They continued to operate West Overland Produce until 1969, when Orvis returned to farming north of Central City. They retired in 1984 and moved to Grand Island. Orvis and Bernice loved to dance to the music of big bands. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Orvis was a faithful supporter of the sports that his sons participated in, especially the years they played American Legion baseball, as well as being an avid Huskers fan. In addition to his wife, Orvis was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
