Gene was born Aug 21, 1918, in Box Elder, MT, and grew up in Havre, MT. At age 19, she became a licensed aviator when a friend taught her to fly. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Great Northern Railroad, where she met her future husband, Paul W. Hartman. Georgene "Gene" (Hall) Hartman, 92, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Mar 10, 2011 at her home in Great Falls. Gene was born Aug 21, 1918, in Box Elder, MT, and grew up in Havre, MT. At age 19, she became a licensed aviator when a friend taught her to fly. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Great Northern Railroad, where she met her future husband, Paul W. Hartman. During World War II, Gene served as an air-traffic control operator at the naval base in Pensacola, FL. Gene and Paul were married Dec 31, 1947, and she lived in Great Falls for the rest of her life. Gene was involved in Order of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls for many years. She worked as a bookkeeper for CE Mitchell & Sons for three generations of the family, finally retiring at age 90. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marilou Welch; and her husband, Paul. She is survived by her children, Dan, Neil and Judi; and six grandchildren. She was once described as a "rock." She was the rock of our family, and she will always be loved and missed.
