Harris was born in Lemington, Vermont, Sept. 10, 1850 and died at Storm Lake, Iowa Dec. 3rd, 1924 aged 74 years, 2 months and 23 days. He was one of eight children, six of whom have preceded him to the Great Beyond. Harris was born in Lemington, Vermont, Sept. 10, 1850 and died at Storm Lake, Iowa Dec. 3rd, 1924 aged 74 years, 2 months and 23 days. He was one of eight children, six of whom have preceded him to the Great Beyond. He came to Newell when about 20 years of age and on Nov 28, 1878 he was married to Viola McBride and they began their married life on a farm in Providence Township. Four children came to bless this union, Howard of Long Beach, CA, Fay E. and Ray O. of Newell and Pricilla now Mrs. E. M. Hines of Storm Lake all of whom are living. A niece, Mrs Aileen Harris Peterson of Sioux City made her home with them from a child of seven until the death of Mrs. Harris which occurred June 30th, 1912. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Harris has made his home with his children spending most of his time with his daughter, Mrs. E. M. Hines of Storm Lake. He traveled much in the latter years and but a few weeks ago he returned from a two months visit to the scenes of his boyhood in the New Hampshire hills. Mr. Harris possessed a rugged constitution and his death came as a shock to his family and friends, as he had seemed in his usual good health until Friday morning and his condition did not seem serious until about twenty four hours before his death. An operation was performed in the hopes of prolonging his life but he had received his summons to go and passed on with these words, "It is all right with me". He is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, one brother and several nieces and nephews and hosts of friends. Funeral services were held at Newell on Friday afternoon Dec 5th conducted by J. E. Holden and assisted by Dr. E. H. Peatfield and interment was made in the Newell cemetery. The pall bearers were, J. E. Holtz, A. E. Couch, John Wart, E. N. Bodholdt, Frank Point and Frank Hines.
