On Monday, May 28, he submitted to an operation at the Hastings hospital from which he could not survive. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon, from the home in Blue Hill at 1:30 and from the M.E. church at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. R.H. Carr. Pallbearers were cousins of the deceased and included Dean Norris, Irving Norris and Mack Arnold of Hastings; Hiram Arnold of Cowles; J.W. McCleery of Pauline; and C.K. McCleery of Blue Hill. A quartet composed of Mesdames Ed Schwenter and Byron Vaughan and L.W. Griffith and Byran Vaughan, sang, accompanied by Miss Arlyne Schwentker. Burial was in the Blue Hill cemetery. Oscar Andrew Arnold was born at Scotts Grove, Iowa on November 3, 1873 and died in the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings on May 31, 1934 at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 28 days. He came to Webster county, Nebraska with his parents in 1877 when a boy only 4 years old and has made his home here since that time. He graduated from the Blue Hill High School and for nine terms taught in the rural schools of this county. On September 2, 1896 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Goll and to them six children were born: all of them still living. They are: Mrs. Mildred Kaforke, Howard, Harold and Leon of Blue Hill; Mrs. Hazel Robertson of Bladen; and Bertrand of Grand Island. They with his widow, four grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, are left to mourn his departure. Mr. Arnold was a farmer and lived on a farm south of Blue Hill for many years. He retired from the farm about four years ago and has since lived in Blue Hill. He was a prosperous citizen and has lived to see Webster County make many advancements and improvements. He was not an old man but has contributed his share in the endeavors to improve this county and state. At the time of his death he was secretary of the Blue Hill Cemetery board and was also a director of the local exchange of the Glenwood Telephone Company.
