Beckwith, 85, a retired Garfield County rancher and warehouse operator and a resident of Clarkston since 1962, died of the infirmities of age at Rest Haven, Inc., at 8:20 a.m. yesterday. Beckwith was born near Wawawai July 17, 1881, the son of Francis and Mary Beckwith, pioneer residents of Garfield County. He attended schools near the Snake River, being instructed by his schoolteacher father. In 1903 and 1904 he attended Blair Business College at Spokane. He married Selma Oldenburg at Mayview May 17, 1912. She died in 1945. Beckwith raised wheat and cattle and operated grain warehouses near the Snake River for many years. He retired after the death of his wife. He was an active member of the Free Methodist Church all of his adult life. He is survived by four sons, Rudolph Beckwith, Clarkston; Alfred Beckwith, Spokane; Donald Beckwith, Astoria, Ore.; and John Beckwith, Pomeroy; four brothers, Claude Beckwith, Woodburn, Ore.; Harold Beckwith, Spokane; Horace Beckwith, Brawley, Calif.; and Lawrence Beckwith, Escondido, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Grace Hasch, Julian Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Merchant Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colfax Cemetery.
