Description	:	Oscar Meyer, age 96,of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of George J. and Rina (Mennen) Meyer on May 12, 1919, on the family farm near Aplington, in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education at the country school near his home. Oscar served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945. While in service, he was stationed in the Philippines and served in the infantry as a drill sergeant. Read More	Oscar Meyer, age 96,of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of George J. and Rina (Mennen) Meyer on May 12, 1919, on the family farm near Aplington, in Butler County, Iowa. He received his education at the country school near his home. Oscar served in the United States Army from 1941 until 1945. While in service, he was stationed in the Philippines and served in the infantry as a drill sergeant. On November 4, 1944, Oscar was united in marriage with Gladys Finger at Risen Fawn, Georgia where he was stationed. They made their home in Aniston, Alabama. After being honorably discharged in 1945, Oscar and Gladys moved to the family farm near Aplington. In 1986, they moved into their home in Aplington where he was currently residing. Oscar farmed his entire life, even until his death. Oscar was a baptized member of the Bethel Reformed Church in rural Aplington. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and fishing with friends in Canada. Oscar’s greatest joy was time spent with his family and friends. Oscar died Sunday, October 25, 2015, at his home in Aplington of natural causes. Oscar is preceded in death by his wife of almost 58 years, Gladys, on October 30, 2002; one grandson-in-law, Jon Bolhuis; his parents; one brother, Edwin Meyer; two sisters, Fannie Meyer and Ann Uhlenhopp. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Bethel Reformed Church with burial at Bethel Reformed Cemetery, both in rural, Aplington.
