Oscar George Wiesinger was born in his parents sod house in Hudgins Township, Perkins County, SD on September 27, 1920 to John and Wilhelmina (Clausen) Wiesinger. He attended rural schools and in 1937 went to northern Minnesota to work for the saw mills. He returned to his parents' home in 1938 and worked for area ranchers until 1941, when he bought the home place. Oscar married Fern "Marvine" Ward on July 31, 1944 and to this union three children were born; Donald, Ed, and Donna Kay. They also raised a niece and nephew of Marvine's, when her sister died in an auto accident. In his younger years he played for area dances with his brothers and cousins. He enjoyed racing his team on the chariot and driving them in parades around the country especially in Deadwood, SD during the "Days of 76", where he hauled Miss South Dakota and various other Queens. He and Marvine also enjoyed going to local dances. After Marvine died, Oscar moved to the HUD Apartments in Lemmon. He then started playing music at the Nursing Home for the residents with other musicians on Friday's. He looked forward to it every week. He played there until December 2007 when he became ill. Oscar passed away late Wednesday evening March 12, 2008 at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. Oscar is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald (Chris), Riverside, CA, Edmund (Maxann), Shadehill, SD; one daughter, Donna Havens, Sioux Falls, SD; one niece, Diane (Kelley) Donnell, Sioux Falls, SD; one nephew, Mike (Rochelle) Jennings, Spearfish, SD; one brother, John, St. Paul, MN; one sister Viola, Castle Rock, CO; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marvine in 1999, three sisters, Frances, Minnie, and Elsie and two brothers, Fred and Rudy.
