Braaten, 76, who passed away Sunday evening at the Pioneer Nursing Home where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. Rev. Eugene Nilsen of the Big Timber Lutheran Church officiated at the services. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. Oscar H. Braaten was born November 27, 1892 at Vining, Minn., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Braaten and attended country school near Vining. He ran a grain elevator in North Dakota before coming to Big Timber where he homesteaded on the Boulder near McLeod. He later ran a grain elevator at Grey Cliff. He was married to Helen C. Elgen on Nov. 3, 925 at Big Timber. He purchased a ranch near Grey Cliff in 1925 and ranched until 1958 when he retired and moved to Big Timber to reside. Mr. Braaten had been a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Sheridan, Wyo., off and on since 1960. He was a veteran of World War 1. Mr. Braaten was a member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 53, Scottish Rites of Livingston, American Legion Post No. 19, the Grey Cliff Band and the Big Timber Band. He was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Braaten. Survivors include his widow, Helen C. Braaten; a son, Duane Braaten of Grey Cliff; two daughters Mrs. Herman (Betty) Smith of Grey Cliff and Mrs. Wesley (Lorene) Imlay of Clyde Park; two brothers, Ed Braaten and Ole Braaten, both of Big Timber; six sisters, Mrs. Ed Nyhus of Billings; Mrs. Clara Gaustad, Mrs. Selma Helembrecht, Mrs. Anna Haagenson, all of Hennings, Minn., Mrs. Bill Johnson and Miss Emily Braaten, both of Mineapolis, Minn.; ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
