Description	:	Oscar Julius Skaim was born October 19, 1916, the son of Ben and Oline (Underdahl) Skaim. He was baptized November 5, 1916, by the Rev. Fjelde and confirmed July 3, 1932, by the Rev. Kjorlaug, both at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County. He attended rural schools. On December 28, 1951, in a double wedding ceremony, Oscar J. Skaim and Hazel I. Fjelde and confirmed July 3, 1932, by the Rev. Kjorlaug, both at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County. He attended rural schools. On December 28, 1951, in a double wedding ceremony, Oscar J. Skaim and Hazel I. Ansten, along with her cousin Mabel Berg and Erenst Mikkelson, were united in marriage by the Rev. M. B. Quill, at the Madison Lutheran Parsonage in Ridgeway. Oscar farmed for many years. Then in 1952, he became a butcher/meat cutter, first at Reardon's and then at Numedahl Lockers. In 1974, he went to work for Decorah Community Schools as a custodian until his retirement in 1981. Oscar lived at home until the last two months of his life when he became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home, November 7, 2001. All of his life, Oscar enjoyed playing his banjo in bands along with his brother Melvin and friends. He was a very hard worker and loved spending time with his grandchildren, which he didn't have until after he retired. He also loved all animals, and had a real soft spot in his heart especially for dogs. Our Heaven Father called Oscar home to an Eternal Life with Him on Sunday, January 6, 2002, at the age of 85 years. Survivors include his wife, Hazel, of Decorah, IA; two daughters, Luane and her husband Bill Tillman of Cresco, IA and Susanne and her husband Paul Bruvold of Decorah, IA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband David Townsley of Newton, IA, Natalie Henzler of Council Bluffs, IA, Andrea Henzler of Cresco, IA, Sara and Travis Henzler, at home in Cresco, IA; and Joni and Kelsey Bruvold at home in Decorah, IA; two great-grandchildren, Trent Townsley and Seth Henzler; one sister, Lillian Carlsborg and one brother-in-law, Leo Tollefson both of Decorah, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Henzler; one son-in-law, James Henzler; five sisters, Clara Anderson, Minny Gulrud, Louise Sutton, Anna Anderson, and Emma Tollefson, and by two brothers, Joseph and Melvin Skaim.
