Read More	The Wright County Reporter / The Dows Advocate March 28, 1946 Oscar Oleson Oscar Oleson, son of Ole L. and Mary Oleson, was born in Oakland township (Franklin Co., Iowa) May 2nd, 1878, and passed away at his home two and one-half miles northeast of Dows on Friday, March 22, 1946 at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 20 days. Oscar was the sixth child in a family of thirteen children, all but one of whom grew to man and woman hood in Oakland township. He attended country school and helped with the work on the farm as a boy. He was confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran church on November 20, 1892. "Shorty," as he was better known in this community, was united in marriage to Anna Rasmussen of Morgan township December 24, 1902. One child, a daughter, was born to this union and she and her two sons were his greatest joys, particularly in the last few years of his life when he was confined to the house because of failing health. Oscar was a good father and husband, never happier than in his own home with his family around him. He was a hard working-man, well liked and respected in the community. He had been in failing health for some years, and his living wife and daughter had nursed and cared for him through many severe illnesses. Oscar was preceded in death by his mother and father; two sisters, one of whom died in infancy (Laura), and another, Mrs. Will (Nellie) Donaldson, of near Alden; also two brothers, Ole A. of Marmath, North Dakota and Lars of Dows. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Anna, and daughter, Marie Coburn, her husband, Harvey, and their two children, Lynn and Lowell; also three brothers, Louis of Akeley, Minnesota, Andrew and Henry of Dows; and five sisters, Mrs. J.C. (Mary Anne) Jacobson, Mrs. Amanda Davis, both of Dows, Mrs. L. L. (Martha) Beinhauer of Des Moines, Mrs. I.D. (Caroline) Thue of Stanton, ND, and Mrs. Lloyd (Tillie) Carpenter of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The following poem was written by a friend of Oscar's and she hopes it will bring a bit of comfort to his family: Still there will be violets As the years pass by Still there will be new green leaves Against turquoise sky Spring will come a million times Can I doubt that I Shall live again another year Even though I die? Services for Oscar Oleson were held at the Halvorson Funeral parlors Monday, March 25, 1946, with Rev. Brough and Rev. Pederson in charge. Charmaine Peterson and Faith Oleson sag two songs, "Ivory Palaces" and "He Knows it All" accompanied by Mrs. A. E. Drury. Interment was in Mount Hope cemetery.
