Description	:	Oscar remained on the family farm and reared three daughters, all are married and living in town, Mrs. L.T. McIntire (Della), Mrs. Ernest L. Plaisted (Grace) and Mrs. Mora Perkins. Here Mr. Stanley with his family was living a contented farmer's life until July 10, 1885, when the much famed Cherry Mountain Slide took place. A very heavy fall of rain had loosened the trees and their coating of moss and soil on Owl's Head (top of Cherry Mountain). Here the slide started and took all in its course down the ravine. Once started each foot of advance added much force to its course. In a wide breadth came broken trees and huge boulders which sailed with a mighty force and roar. Thousands upon thousands of tons of debris was scattered over Mr. Stanley's farm, two miles from the starting point, leaving a wide strip of naked rocks and ledges. Donald Walker, a farm hand, was milking a cow. The house, the cows, the barns were destroyed and Mr. Walker fatally injured and died four days later. Mr. Stanley and his family escaped with a terrific scare. Excursion trains and carriages brought people from far and wide to view the tragic sight, which has now almost disappeared through nature's healing process. "History of Jefferson", George C.
