"Chip" (Sandy) Plyler III of St. Simons Island; his daughter, Emalyn (Richard) Houde of Key West; his brother Perry (Lois) Plyler of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Collins and Melissa (Johnny) Covert; and one great-grandchild, Elizabeth Rea Collins. Born in Charlotte, NC on September 7, 1929 he grew up in Waxhaw NC, Frank was the eldest of Otho Frank and Blanche (Carter) Plyler's four sons. He graduated from Waxhaw High School in 1947 and later earned an associate's degree at Gaston Technical College. On December 26, 1950, Frank wed his high school sweetheart. In 1952, Frank served in the Korean War as a corporal in radio communications. Following his service, he worked in the communications industry, beginning with Southern Bell and eventually retiring from both General Electric and the State of North Carolina Forestry and Highway Divisions. He also volunteered as a reserve police officer for the town of Garner in the 1970s. Frank had many hobbies: hunting and fishing, flying planes, operating a HAM radio, and woodworking out of his "shop" behind his home in Garner. He loved to create and shared many of his creations with friends. Frank will be best remembered for his willingness to help others; whether serving at the church, repairing a radio, or helping with car problems, Frank was a natural engineer who could design or repair anything. He also attended and served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Garner. A funeral service will be held September 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Garner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Garner or Saving Grace at Savinggracefl.org
