His salary was $15 a month. 17 Feb 1866 he is in Star City, Humboldt Co. Nevada. 4 Jan 1868 Othrup left San Francisco, California by steam ship. The trip was difficult. He marries Mary E Bennett on 18 Feb 1869 and on the 13th of March they go by boat to California on their honeymoon. The middle of May they returned to Wauconda, Missouri, by Emigrant Train costing $45. 5 Jan 1872 Othrup was administrator of his father's estate that consisted of 50 acres in Scotland Co, Missouri. On 12 Aug 1872 the 50 acres were sold to son William Cook in Scotland Co Missouri for $1000. 28 Mar 1875 Othrup and family are in Cantril Station, Van Buren Co, Iowa. They have 3 children - one girl and two boys. 6 Oct 1888 Ortho died in his home in Cantril, Iowa, of Typhoid Fever. He was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.
