Description	:	OBITUARY : The funeral for OTIS B. LANDES, 89, probably the oldest active businessman in Abilene, will be at 2 pm Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Abilene, Dr. W. W. Alexander officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene cemetery. Mr. Landes died shortly before noon Wednesday at the Abilene Memorial hospital after a serious illness of several months. Mr. Landes died shortly before noon Wednesday at the Abilene Memorial hospital after a serious illness of several months. He was born April 23, 1876, in Canton, Ohio, and moved to a farm in the Moonlight community when he was a boy. After graduation from Dickinson County high school, Mr. Landes was employed as a bookkeeper for the Shockey hardware and implement company in Abilene. Later he and his father, J. G. Landes, were associated with Isaac and Simon Shockey in the formation of the Shockey and Landes Hardware and Implement company. Mr. Landes was active in civic improvement in Abilene for many years. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce when the group first honored 4H members. He was chairman of the committee which promoted and financed the building of the Sunflower hotel. He was a former officer of the K-15 Highway association. Mr. Landes was president of the Kansas-Nebraska Hardware association from 1921-22 and a post-member of the Western Hardware and Implement Dealers' association. HEADED SHRINE In 1926 Mr. Landes was elected Potentate of the Isis Temple Shrine in Salina. He was awarded the 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite of Masons in 1942 at ceremonies in Washington. D. C. Mr. Landes was a 50-year member of the Abilene Masonic lodge and had held all major offices in the organization. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, a character member of the Abilene Rotary club, a director of the First National bank of Abilene, a former officer of the Abilene Country club and a member of the Abilene Elks lodge. He is survived by the widow, Ruby, of the home; a nephew, Herbert Landes, Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah; a cousin, P. D. Hoffman, Abilene, and other relatives.
