Read More	Information from Missouri death certificate 14713, accessed via www.sos.mo.gov From the Skidmore News, Thursday, May 1, 1919: "Otie Clement Banks Born in Mercer county, Mo., October 3, 1884 Died at his home near Skidmore, Missouri, April 27, 1919 Aged 34 years 6 months 24 days Carrie Belle King-Banks Born in Mercer county, Mo., July 28, 1888 Died at her home near Skidmore, Missouri, April 29, 1919 Aged 30 years 9 months 1 day It has been the work of the writer at several times in years past to record the death of a father, a mother, and others, but for the first time, it has been our work to record the death of a father and mother of one family at the same time, whose death took place within a few hours of each other. The family, which consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Banks and two daughters, Blanche, aged 11 years and Velma, aged 9 years, were stricken with influenza about a week ago and which on the above dates, respectively, ushered this father and mother to the world unknown to mortal man. The two little girls are yet sick, but seem to be improving at this time. This community has been bowed in mourning as it has never been before, for in taking this man from the neighborhood, the community has lost one of its very best citizens, one who was ever cheerful, ever ready to help his fellow man, and one who with his physical strength was ever read for the task that became his lot to do. By his pure and honorable life, he exemplified the teachings of the golden rule and unfailingly evinced a practical piety that will long be remembered as the best of professions. There was a daily atmosphere about his life which won the hearts of men. In temperament he was mild, conciliatory and candid, and yet distinguished for an uncompromising firmness. He gained confidence when it seemed he least sought it. He undoubtedly believed that 'all doors are open to those who smile,' and that the man who scatters flowers in the pathway of his fellow men was best. Thus by his sunny disposition and kindly acts he drew men to him as friends, and the greatest attest of this is the many kind words that have been spoken in testimony thereof. By his labors he had gathered together enough of earthly belongings to equip a little home and about a year ago he bought the farm on which they lived. To the family a bright future was in view. The death of the mother which so closely followed that of the husband is indeed sorrowful, for among all she ranked as a woman of refinement, sympathy, a kind neighbor, a devoted mother and a true wife. But because life and love are stronger than death she is still the mother of the dear children, upon whom she doted with such clinging fondness, and may she not by this very transition wield over them a stronger force for goodness and truth than before. She was sorely needed here. She was the light of the eyes of the two little daughters, and the light has now gone out. To these little girls she was what the sunshine is to the world and her departure to them brings both darkness and chill. Why should so precious, so necessary a one be taken? This is an old question which will never be answered till the screen of our mortal vision is removed by immortality, and we see face to face. The realization as expressed by one of the little girls: 'No papa, no mamma, the house will be sold and we will have no home.' While we mourn the loss of the dead we may rejoice that there is no cloud so dark that there is no light behind it, no sorrow so severe that there is not a cure for the wound it inflicts. Arrangements have been made for Blanche and Velma to have a home with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Banks, and as soon as they are able they will go to their adopted home. Besides the two little girls there are left to mourn for Mr. and Mrs. Banks, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Banks, of Cainesville, Mo., five brothers, Alvin, Allen, Perry and W. L. Banks of Cainesville, J. A. Banks of Hiawatha, Kansas, and two sisters, Mrs. O. A. Taggart of Peoria, Illinois and Mrs. Olen Thomas of Mitchell, South Dakota; Mrs. Banks' father, G. B. King, of Blythedale, three brothers, Henry King of Harris, Mo., Edward King of Grand Island, Nebraska, Oliver J. King of Hopkins, and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Boyle of Trenton and Mrs. Lula Dennison of Kansas City. Funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Reubin Barrett, and the services at the grave were in charge of the Modern Woodmen lodge, of which Mr. Banks was a member."
