Read More	MATTOX, OTIS FARRELL—Otis Farrell Mattox was born June 6, 1915, in Des Moines, Ia., and died October 25, 1991 in Lincoln, at the age of 76. He was one of seven children born to Eli Otis Mattox and Alice Pierson Mattox. Otis was raised in the Des Moines area and was graduated from high school in Farrar, Ia. Post high school degrees conferred were a Bachelor of Arts in education from York College and a Master of Arts in school administration from the University of Nebraska. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and served in World War II as a member of the 503 Military Police Battalion in the European theater. He was united in marriage to Abbie Brandt of Unadilla on April 7, 1943. To this union were born three children; Nancy Lea, Warren Kent and Elizabeth Ann. His diverse careers included teaching at the secondary level and serving as a public school administrator before working as a grain elevator manager. He moved to Geneva in 1958 and in 1961 became Fillmore County Welfare Director. He served a term as president of the Nebraska County Welfare Directors Association and remained active in this organization for many years. He retired as county director in 1984. Otis was active in civic affairs, organizations and the church. He was a dedicated member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7102, a District 16 president of the V.F.W., a member of the American Legion Post 240, the Masonic Lodge of Nebraska City, a mayor of Dunbar and a 50-year member of the United Methodist Church. His avocations included travelling, reading walking and “birding.” He especially enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels during the winter months and observing their squabbles. His great joy in retirement, however, was reserved for his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and three infant brothers. He is survived by his wife, Abbie; daughter, Nancy and husband David Hoober; son, Warren, and wife Kathie; daughter, Elizabeth, and husband, Thomas D. Manning; brothers, Carroll, Alvin and Charles; and six grandchildren, Russell and Matthew Hoober, Andrew and Todd Mattox, and Anna and Maria Manning. Funeral services were held in the United Methodist Church in Geneva on October 28, with the Rev. Stan Rider officiating. Bernita Lomax accompanied Kelly Eich who sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were George Cruse, John Fahlberg, Herman Larsen, Thomas B. Manning, Joe Schelkopf and Richard Trapp. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal Nov. 7th, 1991 page 1.
