Read More	Billings Gazette June 22, 2004 Ottilie Kindsfather Shipp Ottilie "Tillie" Kindsfather Shipp died in Billings on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Seig Kindsfather, in 1951; and her second husband, Walter Shipp, in 1981. Two of her sons, Kenneth Kindsfather and Douglas Kindsfather, also preceded her. Tillie retired to St. John's Lutheran Home and continued living there for the past nine years. Tillie was a pillar of strength. Her courage in dealing with some of life's most difficult burdens was an inspiration to all. First, the death of her army husband Seig who left her to raise three little boys in a society that, at that time, was somewhat unaccustomed to single parent families. She did a remarkable job in dual roles of mother and father. She ruled in a stern manner and followed the old-school work ethic, which she passed on to her sons. She was meticulous in everything she did. Gardening, cooking and canning were some of the things she enjoyed most. She had an artistic flair, even with placement of the colorful homegrown canned goods. Tillie's boys were the light of her life, and she was especially proud of their achievements as students, artists, citizens and volunteers. Then the loss of two sons, Ken and Doug, in separate tragic accidents, left a huge void in her life on earth. That didn't stop her determination in picking up the pieces and going on with life. She became the church bookkeeper and learned to play the guitar and organ. At the age of 65 years, she was honored in obtaining her GED diploma with straight As. Her hands were always busy crocheting afghans for her family, doing ceramics, crafts, and volunteering at St. John's. Her cheerful attitude was contagious and her wit and occasionally silly sense of humor drew people to her. She viewed the world with an open, broad perspective. Tillie is survived by a son, Gerald (Connie) Kindsfather of Eureka, Calif.; a stepson, Ed (Tina) Shipp and stepdaughter Barbara (Wes) Nicholas of Laurel. Tillie has a loving extended family of sisters, Lydia Kinsfater of Spearfish, S.D., Emma Bernhardt, Carol Cook, Ann Cook, and brothers Henry Kindsfater and Richard Kindsfater all of Billings. Her brother, Jake Kindsfater, preceded her in death. Grandchildren Justin, Kory and Cy Kindsfather; three great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews survive and will greatly miss her. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, at Ocee Johnson Chapel of St. John's Lutheran Ministries, 3940 Rimrock Road. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Ministries. Michelotti-Sawyers is in charge of arrangements.
