Etler died early Monday morning, June 19, 1939, after a three week illness of heart trouble at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 12 days. Otto Bertie Etler, son of Henry and Anna Ettler, was born January 7, 1883, at Low Moor, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Battle Creek, Iowa, when he was a child and resided there until manhood. At an early age he was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Church. He married Ada Phillips on August 20, 1906, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, who survives. He was the father of seven sons, two of whom died in infancy. He moved to Anthon in 1910 where he became one of the community's leading farmers. In 1918 he purchased the farm where he completed the span of his life. Survivors include his wife, three sons, Ralph, Robert and Wayne of Anthon, two brothers, Jacob C. of Anthon and Henry of Urbana, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Etta Smith of Burke, South Dakota, Mrs. Minnie Paulsen of Battle Creek, and Mrs. Anna McGee of Ida Grove, and a granddaughter. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 21, 1939) in the Anthon Methodist Church with Rev. F.O. Johnson of Sioux City officiating in the absence of the pastor, Rev. E.A. Hunsley. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Hudgel's Funeral Home.
