The Rev. H. P. Kumpf officated. Burial was in Long Grove cemetery. Otto Paul Schmitt, son of George and Louisa Schmitt was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, June 16, 1874. Here he grew to young manhood. The Rev. H. P. Kumpf officated. Burial was in Long Grove cemetery. Otto Paul Schmitt, son of George and Louisa Schmitt was born in Dubuque county, Iowa, June 16, 1874. Here he grew to young manhood. On February 8, 1899 he married Emma Miehe of Maynard and they had five children. One daughter Alma Mary, died in infancy; the others are a son, Lester of Maynard and three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Brown of Chicago; Mrs. Iva McDonaugh and Mrs. Marjorie Ferrell of West Union. The first three years of their married life were spent at Swea City, IA. In 1902 they purchased the farm one mile south of Maynard, where they lived until 1927. They purchased a home in Maynard, where they resided until 1933, when they returned to the farm, where they remained until 1941, when they retired from farming and returned to their home in Maynard. There they lived at the time of his death. In 1941 he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. He was a member of Sunnyside Masonic lodge and Eastern Star chapter of Maynard. For 20 years he held the office of trustee in Harlan township, resigning when his health failed. He was president of Maynard Saving Bank; Farmer's Creamery association; Maynard Co-op. Commission company and Farmers Mutual Telephone company. His parents, a daughter and four brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; four children; two brothers, Benjamin of Dubuque; George of Dillon, Mont.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Fettgether, Sauk Center, Minn.; Mrs. Emma Nagelmaker of Dubuque and Mrs. Alvina Warnawsk of San Antonio, Tex. -from unknown newspaper Rites Wednesday For Schmitt, Maynard Banker From Local News Desk- MAYNARD(Special)- Services for Otto Schmitt, prominent Maynard businessman, will be Wednesday at 1:30 at the family home, and 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church. The Rev. H.P. Kumpf will officiate, and burial will be in Long Grove cemetery. Mr. Schmidt died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday at his home after a long illness. Surviving are his wife, a son, three daughters, nine grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters. At the time of his death Schmitt was president of the Maynard Savings Bank, the Farmers Creamery and Maynard Co-operative Commission company. He was a former president of the Farmers Mutal Telephone company, and for 20 years Harlan township trustee.
