He came to the Douds community at the age of 10 and spent the rest of his life in Van Buren and Davis counties, with the exception of two years spent in California with his sisters. He was married to Ines Duffield in 1907 and to this union was born five children: Kenneth E. of Moravia, Herbert Bryce of Ottumwa, Carl Verner at home, Margaret J. Davis and Charles Ralph, both of near Keosauqua. Surviving are his widow, five children, eight grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Mercer and Mrs. Minnie Parve, both of Gilroy, Calif. Funeral services were held Friday at the Pedrick funeral home in Douds, Rev. Robert G. Farr was in charge. Pallbearers were Charles Witt, Wayne Hendricks, George Holden, Rex Peacock, Cleve Thorne, Wm. Poling. Music was in charge of Rev. Finney, Forrest Hanshaw, Larry Pollock, Bob Pedrick and Mrs. Josephine Robinson. Interment was in Pittsburg cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
