Description : Patience Easton was born November 20, 1655 the daughter of Peter and Ann Coggeshall Easton. The Eastons were Quakers and early leaders of progressive Rhode Island. Nicholas Easton, Peter's father and Patience's grandfather, was President of Providence Plantation from 1650 to 1651 and in 1654 and Governor of the united colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations in 1672. John Easton, Peter's brother and Patience's uncle, was Governor from 1690 to 1695. Patience's brothers, also named Nicholas and Peter Easton, began manumitting or liberating their slaves in the 1670's.
