Read More	Thanks to contributor - Susan Williams (47498512) Sun News, The (Myrtle Beach, SC) - Thursday, January 1, 2004 Columbia SC United States COLUMBIA \| Patricia Ann Ward Burton, 56, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, S.C., after a courageous six year battle with lymphoma. She was born on Jan. 4, 1947 in Conway, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Julius M. and Katie Booth Ward. She graduated from Winthrop College, was a teacher and teacher's assistant with Lexington County School District 5 for many years, and a former employee of the S.C. Department of Disabilities and Specials Needs. She was an active member of St. Andres Baptist Church, a loving wife, adoring grandmother, wonderful mother, and our best friend, Pat was also an avid Clemson fan. Pat is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jim Burton; son, Kevin Burton and his wife, Lori of Charlotte, N.C. ; daughter, Kelly Burton Hodge and her husband, John of Spartanburg; the joys of her life, grandchildren, Annie Kate and Harrison Hodge; brothers, James Ward of Hilton Head, Rev. Dalton Ward of Columbia, Dugan Ward and Tom Ward, both of Conway; sister, Betty Hardee Stone of Charlotte, N.C.; and granddog, Jackson. A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Baptist Church, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, so that all the Clemson fans can enjoy the Peach Bowl on Friday, as she would have wanted. The family expresses deep gratitude for the exceptional medical care and compassion of Dr. Rosemary Lambert-Falls, nurses and staff at S.C. Oncology Associates, West Columbia, S.C., Dr. Gary Spitzer, nurses and staff at Cancer Centers of the Carolina in Greenville, S.C., and the fantastic nurses at the BMT Center at St. Francis Hospital.
