Patricia Kranz was born November 7, 1930, at Noltimier Township near Valley City, the daughter of Walter and Maybelle (Hendereson) Kranz. She grew up near Valley City and attended most of her school years in Noltimier Township near Valley City where she was involved in cheerleading, basketball and the 4-H Club. Pat also was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church near Valley City. Pat graduated from Valley City High School in 1948. She later attended Valley City State University. She was very close to her family and involved in a trio-singing group called the “Kranz Cousins,” consisting of Pat, Maxine Kranz-Melhoff and Jean Kranz-Black. She later went on to form her own singing show on KOVC Radio in Valley City called “Music by Charmagne.” She married Herbert C. Arndt on June 10, 1949. Pat later married Loren J. Larson on July 5, 1964, at Aberdeen, S.D. She made music a large part of her children’s lives. She played piano by ear and would take thee children to nursing homes on weekends just to entertain many people. In the early 1990s, she suffered a severe stroke, which left her paralyzed on her right side. Pat kept a “can do” and “will so” attitude that had her up and walking and talking and even riding her “Rascal” electric mobility cart. She rode in Valley City parades, showing off her decorated cart. She wore many creative hats which she designed. She gave of herself until she had nothing and then found joy in the happiness of generosity. She enjoyed playing bingo, finding humor in sarcasm and getting people to realize that life really isn’t as serious as people believe it to be. She lived, taught, found joy in simplicity, and pulled goodness out of badness. Her never-ending strength will live on through her children and grandchildren. Survivors are her husband Loren, Lisbon, daughters, Kris M. (Gene) Arndt, Pleasant Hills, MO, Barbara K. (Jerry) Beaker, Bismarck, Jodi Rae Larson-Bontrager, Valley City, and Vicki (John) Arndt-Helgesen, Overland Park, Kansas, sons, Karl M. (Sveta) Arndt, Anchorage, Alaska, Kim S. Arndt, Anchorage; William H. (Tarah) Arndt, Kansas City, MO, Jay P. (Diane) Larson, Anchorage, and Erik Christopher (Allison) Larson, Spokane, Wash.; her mother, Maybelle Kranz, Valley City; two brothers, Keith Kranz, Valley City, and Dean Kranz, Lavonia, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Lynn Larson and her father, Walter Kranz. Arrangements are by the Peterson-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City.
