Description	:	JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Patricia (Pat) Jean LaFleur, 77, of Jefferson departed this life Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, to join her maker in heaven. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Jefferson. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel in Sioux City. The Irish lass was born Aug. 27, 1929, to Michael and Mary Agnes (Mackey) Conley in rural Hartington, Neb. She was raised in Nebraska, living in Homer and Jackson before her family settled in South Sioux City, where she graduated from high school in 1947. Her love of knowledge led to a teaching degree from Wayne (Neb.) State College. She taught for a year at a rural school near Lyons, Neb. To the dismay of her Irish ancestors, she married a Frenchman, Ray LaFleur, on Oct. 26, 1948, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. After she converted Ray into an honorary Irishman, her family grew to love him as much as she did. Pat and Ray made their home in Jefferson and contributed to the growth of the Jefferson population, bearing nine children, eight of them boys. When she wasn't spending time with her husband, her nine children, 21 grandchildren or 11 great-grandchildren, Pat enjoyed being active with the St. Peter's Parish and was a member of the St. Peter's Altar Society. She also participated in Mother's Club and was a member of Overeaters Anonymous for more than 25 years. She continued to be a substitute teacher at McCook Lake and Jefferson schools. She also worked at Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City and retired from there in 2001. Survivors include the love of her life, Ray; a son, Roche LaFleur of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Debra (LaFleur) Hellman of Burt, Iowa; a son, Steve (Beano) and Sherry LaFleur of Dakota Dunes; a daughter, Brenda and Chuck Koerner of Mound, Minn.; a son, Mark LaFleur of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son, Vincent LaFleur of North Sioux City; a son, Barry and Terese LaFleur of Rapid City, S.D.; a son, Ted and Dee Dee LaFleur of Madison, S.D.; a son, Dean LaFleur of Shakopee, Minn.; a sister, Theresa Burbach of Central City, Neb.; a sister, Doris and Tony Ruhland of Le Mars, Iowa; and a sister, Shirley Bernard of Culver City, Calif. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis LaFleur; a daughter-in-law, Katherine (Mark) LaFleur; her parents; two brothers, John Conley and Mike Conley; and five sisters, Mary Kleber, Kate Wehrer, Lucy LaFleur, Irene Wait and Margaret Lyman.
