Pat died April 6, 2014 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Patricia "Pat" Rae Helfenstein, daughter and only child of Peter and Violet Delores (Iszler) Helfenstein, Jr. was born March 10, 1954 at Ashley, ND. She attended rural elementary school at Petersburg District No. 45, graduating from Ashley High School with the class of 1972. She then attended ND State School of Science at Wahpeton taking a two-year secretarial training course. Pat worked for the Ellendale, ND City Auditor for three years, Ashley Clinic for four years and with Metropolitan Federal Bank for seven years. On October 1, 1988 Pat became employed at McIntosh County Bank where she was currently employed for the last 25 ½ years. She was united in marriage to Norley Meidinger on May 17, 1974 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They lived in Ellendale for three and one-half years, and then moved to the former Albert Bertsch farm nine miles south of Ashley. In 1975 they purchased the Oscar Pfeifle farm near Wishek, ND, and in 1985 purchased the Nitschke Mobile Home Park and moved into the present location at Ashley where Pat currently resided. Pat lived life to the fullest. She loved to dance to old time music of two step, waltz, and polka gliding across the dance floor. She enjoyed shopping, bowling, card playing and games. She will always be remembered for her smile, her contagious laugh, her kindness, joyfulness, her love and jest of life. Friends and family were the center of her life and all held a special place in her heart. She treasured everyone. Pat was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley Country Club where she was the treasurer and Red Hatters. Grateful for having shared Pat's life are her daughters, Rebecca (Jodie) Michaelsohn and Raquel Meidinger; her father, Peter Helfenstein, Jr.; one grandson and special friend, Larry Nagel. Her mother, Violet, preceded her in death. Pat was deeply loved by friends and family. She will be missed by all who had the privilege to share a dance, laugh, or memory with her. She's dancing with the angels. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
