Description	:	Patricia Birkett, 79, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born January 1, 1930, at Cottonwood, KS to Theon and Ruth (Trussell) Rockwell. While she was still a baby, the family moved to Santa Paula, CA. Her father was a meat cutter by trade. Read More	Patricia Birkett, 79, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born January 1, 1930, at Cottonwood, KS to Theon and Ruth (Trussell) Rockwell. While she was still a baby, the family moved to Santa Paula, CA. Her father was a meat cutter by trade. When she was two years old, he was accidently killed in a hunting accident. Pat's mother later married Albert Hopkins, whose wife had died, leaving him with two children, a son and daughter, so that Pat had a step-brother and step-sister. Albert and Ruth then had a son, Tommy, giving Pat a half brother, as well. Pat graduated from high school in 1947, and went to work as a telephone operator for the next three years. She met and dated Herbert Birkett, who was stationed nearby in Port Hueneme in the United States Navy. They were married on October 6, 1950, at Las Vegas, NV. He was later stationed in the Marshall Islands and as soon as he was able to secure housing, Pat joined him. While he was stationed in Japan, she was unable to join. When he returned to Port Hueneme, they started their family. They later moved to Okinawa for three and a half years, and then to the state of Virginia, where Herb worked in Washington D.C. In 1966, following his discharge, they came to Wenatchee, where they have since lived. She had been baptized in the Church of the Brethren and was a longtime member. Pat is survived by her husband of more than 58 years of marriage, Herb; their three sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent and Michele of Sumas, Stephen and Sheryl of Spokane and Michael and Cindy of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Sara Birkett, Matthew Birkett, Michael Birkett, Nicholes Birkett and Jarrod Birkett. She is also survived by her brother, Tommy; and her sister, Ruby. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bert. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 23, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley. Concluding Services and Interment will follow at the Wenatchee Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who wish, may make memorials to Alzheimer's Research Program. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
