Description	:	Patrick Finnigin was born at Belfast, Ireland, His father was a weaver of fine Irish Linens and a man of ability and large experience. Read More	Patrick Finnigin was born at Belfast, Ireland, His father was a weaver of fine Irish Linens and a man of ability and large experience. He had the surpervision of a large mill in which several hundred people were employed. In and about this mill the yound lad had his schooling and his training, and he was not idle, for at 17 years of age he was assigned to his father's place in charge of the mill and 300 people while his father went to a larger place. This responsible position Patrick held to the entire satisfaction of his employers, for several years.But it was not to this liking to spend his life in the employ of others, and especially those whom he could not respect because they oppressed and defrauded the people of his own race and kin. He came to America about the year 1868, and with little means, single handed and without friends, started anew in the battle of life. In the course of time he found employment with the Grand Island railway people, and, starting at the bottom, soon found himself in charge of a gang of men. In this capacity he saved the money which with he bought his first 40 acres of land, which now forms a part of his fine home farm. To this he has added several nice farms, buyingthe last quarte section only last week.By hard labor and the application of strict business principles, always attending to his own business and being heedful of the rights of others, he has succeeded far beyond many around him. He was elected to the office of county commissioner in 1893 and filled the office for three years to the satisfaction of the people and with credit to himself. The stone bridges which patrick Finnigin built for Marshall county when he was county commissioner and for which he has never had the credit he deserved, will stand for ages to come as monuments to his wisdom and efficiency in office. Mr Finnigin was married three time: First to Miss Mary Ann FitzGerald, of which union one child was born, who is now Mrs Arlo Driskel. His second wife was Catherine Loob, who bore him two sons and one daughter now living. After her death he was united in marriage to Miss Theresa Parker, of Marysville, who with her three children also survive him. Those of his family who are grown are well behaved, good children of a worthy sire. The funeral services were conducted in the Catholic Church by Father Burk, who preached an excellent sermon, and called attention to the life and character of the deceased and held it up as an example to others. Mr finnigin was a faithful, consistent and devout, member of the Catholic Church. The age of the deceased is given as 56 years, 6 months and 4 days. A host of neighbors, relatives and friends gathered from over the county and followed the body to the grave. He was loved and esteemed in his life and honored at his death.
