MCCARTHY CASTLETON-- April 18,--Patrick Henry McCarthy, 89, the oldest member of St. John's Catholic church and one of the oldest residents of Castleton, died at 1:45 o'clock this afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Charles E. Brough, after a few days' illness of pneumonia. He was born in the county Wexford, Ireland, February 3, 1948, only son of Matthew and Catherine (Kinsella) McCarthy, coming to the United States when seven years old. He lived in West Granville, N.Y., until his marriage to Mary Jane McGinley. He lived in West Rutland and Mount Holly coming to Castleton 52 years ago. Two other daughters survive, Mrs. George Ducharme, of this town and Mrs. Patrick P. Murphy. He also leaves 33 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. John's church with burial in Hillside Cemetery. Published Rutland Herald, 21 Apr 1937. Obituary PATRICK H. MCCARTHY CASTLETON, April 20--Funeral services for Patrick Henry McCarthy, 89, one of Castleton's oldest residents, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles E. Brough, were held at St. John's Catholic Church this morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. J.J. O'Brien officiated. Music was furnished by the church choir under the direction of Mrs. Charles McLaughlin, organist. He was born in County Wexford, Ireland. February 3, 1848, only son of Matthew an Catherine (Kinsella) McCarthy. He came to United States when seven years old. He had lived in various surrounding communities before coming to Castleton to take up residence. Mr. McCarthy is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Charles E. Brough and Mrs. George Deucharme of Castleton, and Mrs. Patrick P. Murphy of Pittsfield, Mass. The bearers were G. Edward McCarthy, William P. McCarthy, Edward G. McCarthy, Gerald McCarthy, Walter Heyman and Thomas O'Connell all grandsons. The family received floral tributes from friends and neighbors. Burial was in Hillside cemetery, Castleton.
