The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in charge of arrangements. Pat was born March 13, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Patrick and Tena Heuer Hopewell. He married Florine M. James on March 8, 1946, at St. Mary’s Church, Muscatine. He graduated from Muscatine High School and attended Muscatine Community College. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served during World War II and survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a 30-year member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a firefighter for the Muscatine Fire Department for seven years and he served on the Muscatine City Council for five years. He owned and operated Hopewell TV Sales and Service for 40 years. Pat was a life member and past commander of VFW Post 1565 and Muscatine Boat Club. He was a life member of American Legion Post 27 and a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish and had attended St. Mary’s Church. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Laurent Council 1305. He was a past president of Muscatine Jaycees. He loved hunting, fishing and boating. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Florine M. Hopewell, of Muscatine; a son, Robert P. Hopewell and wife, Tena, of Jacksonville, Florida; two grandchildren, Kelly Kerr and Amy Harlicka, both of Muscatine; three great-grandchildren, Michaela Kerr, Alex Kerr and Chloe Snyder, all of Muscatine; and a sister, Bernice Berry, of Davenport. He was preceded in death his parents, one daughter, Patricia Rae Clark, on Dec. 20, 2005 and two sisters, Genevieve Allbee and Della Macarter.
